What is it?
The “We’re All Garnet & Gold” Twitter Essay Contest is a unique opportunity for Florida State University students to reflect on the values of integrity, diversity and opportunity as Florida State celebrates its 50th Anniversary of integration.
Currently enrolled students of Florida State University have the opportunity to answer prompts that deal with the themes of diversity, integration and adversity. Responses to the prompts must be answered in 130 characters or less and be submitted via Twitter to designated accounts.
The Office of University Communications has created fictitious Twitter accounts for Dobby Flowers, Fred Flowers, and Maxwell Courtney. Each Twitter account offers a distinct prompt, and each essay response must be submitted to the corresponding account.
The following are the Twitter usernames and corresponding prompts:
• Doby Flowers (@FSUDoby)
How have you stood proud in the face of adversity?
• Fred Flowers (@FSUFred)
How has integration changed the way you play in the game of life?
• Maxwell Courtney (@FSUMaxwell)
How do you think diversity has broadened your academic experience?
The contest will run from April 2, 2012 to April 14, 2012.
A winning essay will be selected for each prompt, totaling 3 winners. Each winner will be awarded a $250.00 Book Scholarship by the Florida State University Black Alumni Association during the Graduation Reception on Friday, April 20, 2012, 6:00 p.m., FSU Union Grand Ballroom.
Judging will take place April 15, 2012 – April 17, 2012 by representatives from the Black Alumni Association, the Black Student Union, and the Office of University Communications. The winners will be announced April 18, 2012 on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/FSUIntegration) and on the Integration Commemoration website (http://integration.fsu.edu).
