The Florida State University (FSU) Black Alumni Association is an officially chartered affiliate of the FSU Alumni Association, and is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in the State of Florida. The Association's mission is to build a network of Black alumni and friends and sustain meaningful relationships on behalf of FSU.
The FSU Black Alumni Association promotes and supports the academic achievement and excellence of Black students at FSU. Consequently, the FSU Black Alumni Association Scholarship Fund was established in the FSU Foundation to provide financial assistance to minority students of African descent.
As part of the Celebration of the 50thAnniversary of Integration at FSU, the FSU Black Alumni Association will award a $1,000 scholarship to onedeserving student in honor of Maxwell Courtney (the first Black undergraduate student to attend and graduate from FSU).
Interested students should complete the Scholarship Application, and briefly discuss their academic experiences and community involvement outside the formal classroom.
Additionally, applicants must describe how they took a stand and were courageous in the face of injustice or a challenging situation, and how they used this as an opportunity to build social solidarity, encourage understanding, or broaden their academic experiences.
